I laud your imaginative, tongue-in-cheek, approach to garbage disposal in the June 23, 2022 Peace Arch News Opinion piece, about firing the earth’s garbage into the sky and having the sun incinerate it. You opined that “Stuff that would break down here on earth would be instantly vaporized. And that vapour? Evaporated.”
A business assessment technique I learned too late in life is SWOT; Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. You described a great job of the idea’s Strength of eliminating the world’s garbage pollution problem; the Weakness of its incredible costs, and the Opportunity for creating greatly increased employment, needed to bring the idea to fruition.
Although you did add the supplement, “I don’t mean to hit you with so much science all at once, but even biological, chemical, and nuclear waste would be no match for Old Sol”, you didn’t really address Threats. What happens to waste after incineration by Old Sol?
Incinerated waste does not just disappear in a puff of smoke. In 1842, Julius Robert Mayer discovered the First Law of Thermodynamics which states, “Energy is neither created nor destroyed”; it merely changes its form.
Incineration converts trash like paper, plastics, metals, and food scraps into more toxic ash, combustion and acid gases, carcinogen dioxin, particulates, heavy metals, and nitrogen oxide, all of which are poisonous to the environment.
Your solution has merely moved the earth’s climate warming pollution from where it only affects the earth’s atmosphere to out past the ozone layer into where the sun lives, the Troposphere, aka the Heavens, Heaven, the Heavenly Sphere. However, it would possibly affect all those really, really, good people who passed on before us.
Do we really want to upset God more than we do now?
Confidence, Wisdom and Luck
It was my birthday two months ago; I am now a senior/senior having reached 30 Celsius. There is little to be said positively about old age except hopefully attaining a degree of Wisdom and having the Confidence to trust my decisions.
During that 85 years (I assume you have figured out Celsius/ Fahrenheit by now), I have gone bankrupt three times. Many people would call me a bad businessman and they would be absolutely correct. I’d rather call it naivety and a lack of Wisdom in the area of business management. I made $1,000,000 four times my life and lost it three times. Many would call me unlucky. I put it down mainly to poor timing (aka Luck) and lack of Wisdom (aka Stupidity). Fortunately I’ve had the Confidence to make that million dollars back each time, (aka Creativity and Perseverance) and am presently starting on my fifth million but am up against Father Time and his scythe.
My Successes gave me Confidence; my Failures gave me Wisdom; a little bit of Luck helped along the way as well.
No matter what you are undertaking, you need Confidence and Wisdom to be successful. Confidence without Wisdom will lead you to make stupid mistakes. Wisdom without Confidence leads to a life of frustration. As well, good and bad Luck can determine the degree of Success or Failure as well. Success also needs Money for Marketing.
Timing and Luck tend to go together.
If you have the Wisdom to understand the herd mentality of sheeple, recognize the cyclic nature of world events, the Confidence to make major decisions, you can frequently foretell when the bubble is about to burst (aka buy low and sell high). You will also need the Money to fund those decisions to be financially successful.
My only regret today is not having the Money to take advantage of all the bursting bubbles around me.
I’m as mad as hell. The last few day the media has been replete with stories about the finding of 215 unmarked graves buried at the “Canadian” Residential School in Kamloops run by the Catholic Church. As a Canadian citizen, I am shocked, stunned, aghast: I cannot find the word to truly describe my disgust to the news of this horror. I am not really surprised however and expect this figure will rise as other residential schools are investigated.
The residential school system was started in colonial New France (now Quebec) by Roman Catholic missionaries in 1817 to convert “barbaric Indians” into Catholic believers. This is 50 years before Canada became a country in 1867. In that year, the Canadian government introduced the “Indian Act” to culturally and territorially disenfranchise the Indians, financially supporting but leaving the administration to both predominantly Catholic and Anglican churches until 1996 when the last school closed.
During those 129 years, 150,000 Indian, Métis, and in Inuit children between the ages of four and 16 attended 139 Indian residential schools with more than a “reported” 4,100 dying while in the care of those two churches. This death rate of approximately 4% is double the 2% found in outside society. Those children who lived and died suffered horrific physical abuse: strapping, “cat-o-nine-tails, beaver snare traps, rape, malnutrition, humiliation, sanitary and ventilation problems, inadequate diet, clothing and medical care and other atrocities.
The 1907 Bryce Report stated, “24% of all the 40 people who attended one school were known to be dead” and at the File Hills reserve in Saskatchewan, 75% of the students had died in the first 16 years of school operation. 59% of all alumni, almost all women died from tuberculosis.
Given the “power and responsibility” these churches had, it naturally follows they had “accountability” for their actions. To the credit of the Anglican Church, they issued an apology to the survivors in 1993. The Pope acknowledged the sexual abuse by the hands of the clergy in Chile and the decade of sexual abuse by priests in Ireland but refused to apologize for the Churches Residential School “sick” maltreatment in Canada.
Unlike his father, I fear the existing “politically and whatever is currently socially correct, vote getting son,” will take total financial and emotional responsibility for the damages they inflicted on fellow Canadians, while the Anglican and especially the Catholic Churches will hide behind God and his “mysterious ways”.
I used to be proud of being a Canadian and refuse to be “tarred and feathered” by the innuendo of “Canadian Residential School.” Let’s call it by the true moniker, “Catholic and Anglican Run” Residential Schools. You can either stand up and be counted or be one of the “sheople. Let me hear your thoughts.

I read where the Yucatán NewsMagazine states that Carnivale Cruise Line will be docking again in Progreso in July of this year. It also mentions that its crew of 1,386 have been vaccinated against COVID, but the 3,690 passengers are not required to do so. I suspect most of the passengers are in the high risk older, white-haired age group.
Every disease control group in the world stresses the greatest risk factor for transmission of the virus is large indoor groups, usually larger than 5 or 6, not 5,076, eating in enclosed confines three times a day. The 3,690 high risk passengers will be wandering throughout Progreso and Merida, visiting the cenotes and Mayan ruins mingling with tens of thousands of Mexicans and other visitors.
I understand the economic need for the cruise lines to get back into the business as well as the economic need for Progreso and surroundings to have its return of tourists. BUT the Economic Benefit/COVID Risk cannot be justified, especially since it appears all countries visited do not have the virus under an acceptable degree of control. This decision is a disaster waiting to happen.
As a minimum criteria, all cruise-ships should not be allowed to enter any country unless the entire crew and all the passengers have received complete vaccinations.

Dentists are the highest risk group in the world for contracting the Covid and any other virus passing by. You are at greater risk than paramedics and respirologists in the hospital. (1) But unlike the latest heroes, hospital front line workers, you are disliked and vilified because the public thinks you make too much money.

Dentistry Today is in Chaos
The College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia, (CDSBC), has finally released guidelines allowing you to perform Category A, B and C procedures. You have probably closed your practice since the stop work order in mid-March and are anxious to reopen.
