Dr. Harold Bergman
DDS, Dipl.OS&A, MScD(Path) Consultant Academic: During his first 30 years of life, Dr. Bergman earned four University recognized degrees, a Doctor of Dental Surgery, Oral Surgery and Anaesthesia, a Master’s Degree in Oral Pathology, and Member of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

Implant Designer: Realizing the limitations implant systems offered at the time, in 1987 he used his experience and creativity to design, manufacture and bring to market four successful dental implant systems including the Anchor, Simpler, MAXImini and SIMPLI as well as numerous other allied products.

Anchor was a hydroxylapatite coated push -in implant, the first Canadian designed implant system to receive approvals in Canada, USA and Europe. It has successfully lasted more than 26 years in a patient.

Dr. Bergman introduced three features with the Simpler implant design never seen before in a dental implant: a Morse taper mating surface, platform switching feature and his patented microgroove collar. The three features are now part of most implant systems on the market today.

Mini implants by definition are less than 3 mm in diameter. Their initial popularity was due to their being one piece as opposed to being made up of several components and their perceived ease of placement. The problem with the Mini was their lack of retention in the bone due to their narrow diameter. The MAXImini is designed to have greater surface area and support in the phone while having the same diameter and ease of placement. The MAXImini was also available in larger diameters should a greater degree of bone be available.

Veterinary Dentistry: Dr. Bergman recognized many veterinarians were placing dental implants designed for humans into small animals due to the similar size and shape shared by small animal and human tooth roots. These implants worked well in most areas of animal mouths except for the cuspid area which were much larger and having a more ovoid cross-section. In 2012, he designed the K9-1 and later the K9-2 dental implant systems for to replace cuspid teeth in small animals.

Business Life: Dr. Bergman has the Creativity, Focus and Perseverance to make $1,000,000 four times his life as President and CEO of several companies. He has also lost it three times. Fortunately he has made the million dollars back each time, and is presently starting on his fifth million.
